“Salon de mai” vintage Picasso exhibition poster, 1957. (sub heading)

A rare striking lithograph print from the 1957 exhibition at the Musee D’art Moderne de la Ville Paris. Salon de mai. It takes Picassos arresting torso de femme (womans torso) as its central focus. The Salon de mai (may salon) was a yearly exhibition held by a group of French artists who first gathered in 1943 during the Nazi occupation of France in a café in Paris. They stood in stark opposition to Nazi ideology and its condemnation of “degenerate” art.

This was an original print run of 600. Obviously not many of these have survived because rarely will you see one come up for sale.

The print is displayed in a modest frame for protection and to keep the price down.
