Vintage Compactum Chest of Drawers Wardrobe - Painted Cupboard
Vintage Compactum Chest of Drawers Wardrobe - Painted Cupboard
A wonderfully unusual, early 20th century gentlemans/ladies tallboy chest, compactum wardrobe with a concealed slide up top and original paint, circa 1920s.
This well proportioned, multi functional piece is made up of a full length cupboard/ wardrobe to the left side that opens up to reveal a deceptively spacious interior, fitted with a telescopic sliding hanging rail and tubular shoe bars to the bottom. To the right side a configuration of four dovetail jointed drawers that sit above a smaller versatile cupboard. All door and drawer fronts retain their patinated brass and copper pull knob handles.
The wonderful top section lifts and slides up on a heavy gauge brass and bolt mechanism to reveal a number of handy storage compartments, whilst the underside displays its original vanity mirror flanked by faux leather tiger print pockets. - All neatly raised on simple shallow supports.
Original makers Bakelite badge exists to inside door.
Paintwork has age and i would call this is an old school Stoney white. (a contrast to the white floorboards on photos)
The aesthetics here are matched by its versatility & function.
Condition: Solid, robust and fully functional. Wear is commensurate with its age. Will show dings, knocks or chips to paint. Photos sum this piece up nicely. Overall superb!
