Vintage Ercol Stacking Chairs - Model 392
Vintage Ercol Stacking Chairs - Model 392
Model 392 adult stacking chair designed by Lucian Ercolani for Ercol in the late 1950s. Please note these are the adult size, 44cm seat height.
The well-proportioned, versatile Ercol 392 chair exhibits many of the popular features of Ercol furniture. Crafted from solid elm and beech, this stackable chair is both sturdy and comfortable. Characterised by two diagonal uprights rising from the underframe with a curved horizontal seat back. The splayed tapered legs on these chairs allow them to stack vertically when not in use, combining versatility and style.
A striking feature of this chair is the classic Windsor wedge joint, where the leg of the chair goes right through the seat; a wedge is then inserted into a cut in the leg, forming a remarkably strong joint. Sanded off flush with the seat, the joint then provides a beautiful design element.
These chairs are remarkably versatile……..they look great around a table or desk……. or simply dotted individually around the home.
One of the chairs still has remnants of the original blue label present, dating them to the late 1950s – 1960s.
